The Seminary requires all first-year university students to take an English proficiency test to determine their readiness for college level English. In some cases it may be necessary to do remedial work in English. Students for whom English is a second language generally need more basic English Language Training courses. The most commonly used test in British Columbia is the Language Proficiency Index (LPI) administered through the Education Measurement Research Group of the University of British Columbia and offered several times during the year at sites throughout the province. Seminary applicants within British Columbia should arrange to take the test in May or earlier at their local university or community college.
